Nice to meet you… I brought the stamp.
There’s something beautifully strange about being a notary.
Every day looks a little different in my world—but it always starts with a clear mission: show up, serve with kindness, and help people through the paperwork that matters most.
There’s no uniform for what I do, but you’ll usually find me equipped with calm energy, a reliable pen, and a knack for making strangers feel more at ease.
I’m often invited into people’s homes, hospitals, offices, or even their backyard gardens—most of the time by folks I’ve never met before. The conversations are short but they instantly distinguish respect and a delightful presence of one another. The paperwork is essential for it is the one who promotes the grand meeting of parties. And as for the trust? Instant upon the door opening and sharing a welcoming smile.
One chilly Pacific Northwest morning, I met a woman at her home in Lake Stevens, WA to notarize documents so she could receive her well-earned pension benefits. As I sat at the table and started to unpack my things, she handed me something –a piping hot Starbucks coffee!
“You must be freezing,” she said. “You’re doing me such a huge favor coming out this early in the morning.”
That cup of kindness warmed more than just my hands, it touched my soul.
Another time, during a magnificent sultry August afternoon I helped a gentleman complete a real estate transaction on the patio of his log cabin way out in Arlington, WA with a scenic view of the cascade mountains and beautiful rolling acres that seemed to go on for days. As we turned the pages he even asked if I could drop the documents off at the local UPS store in the morning.
“Absolutely,” I said. “Once your document package is handed over I will text you a screen shot of your tracking receipt.” We then continued thru the package, double-checked every detail, and signed all the papers, and just as I was packing up, he paused. “Wait right here.”
He walked to the back of his yard, bent down, and returned with a massive, freshly picked head of cabbage – crisp, vibrant, and the perfect addition to my evening meal.
“This is the good stuff,” he said. “My wife has tended to this garden for over a decade.”
These are the moments that stay with me.
I’m not just collecting signatures. I’m collecting small pieces of humanity—snapshots of trust, grace, and kindness from people I may never see again.
I come and go like mist over the lake—there to serve, gone before you know it. But if I’ve done my job right, I leave behind peace of mind… and a story to tell.
So yes, I’m a notary.
But maybe I’m also a little bit of a professional stranger.
One who shows up when needed brings an abundance of warmth and leaves you with more than just completed paperwork.
Until we meet,
